KATHLEEN BARRY TO OFFER KEYNOTE SPEECH AT DELAWARE LESBIAN FEMINIST CONFERENCE

Rehoboth Beach, DE (October 25, 2018): The Pussy Church of Modern Witchcraft, the first church based on lesbian feminism to attain 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in the United States, announced today that renowned feminist Kathleen Barry will keynote the Church’s radical feminist conference in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware next April.

Kathleen Barry broke new ground with her landmark book, Female Sexual Slavery, which launched a global movement against human trafficking. She reframed prostitution as a violation of human rights, which led to the formation Coalition Against Trafficking in Women by Barry and other radical feminists. In addition to her extensive work against sexual exploitation of women, Barry wrote Unmaking War: Remaking Men, which discusses how masculinity and the military prepare men for killing; this book introduces new approaches to world peace and a new masculinity rooted in the humanity of men and boys rather than lethal masculine socialization.

“The importance of Kathleen’s contributions to the feminist movement in the United States and internationally cannot be overstated,” said Cathy Brennan, one of the trustees of the Church. “We are grateful that Kathleen will keynote this event, which is the first of its kind in the Delmarva area.”

Barry’s keynote speech will focus on the importance of radicalizing feminism and  the role of consciousness-raising. The conference will also provide space for women to engage in  the role of consciousness-raising and to learn how to bring this important tool back to their communities.

The conference – entitled Solidarity: A Radical Feminist Conference – will focus on the need for solidarity among women in the radical feminist movement. The conference occurs April 12 – 14, 2019 in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Tickets are limited to 50 attendees and are available at the Church’s page on Eventbrite.
